Pulse Films is thrilled to announce the signing of LA and New York-based director and stills photographer Mike Piscitelli
Born in California's sun-drenched San Fernando Valley Mike Piscitelli dropped out of ninth grade to pursue skateboarding, hardcore music and girls. At 18 he moved to New York and proceeded to shoot editorials for Dazed & Confused, Another and i-D magazines, went on to direct MTV's SoCal Summer campaign, which earned a coveted Art Directors Club Award. Mike soon found himself directing music videos for Iggy Pop, John Frusciante, Linkin Park and The Walkmen, among others. In 2006 he won Pitchfork Media's "Video of the Year" for Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Matt Sweeny's "Superwolf," and in 2007 was voted one of Print magazine's New Visual Artists.
"I grew up skateboarding in the San Fernando Valley and made my first music zine when I was 14," says Piscitelli. "I took photos of hardcore bands at shows to learn about photography and design." Instead of taking art classes, he made things - little books of his photos and drawings, keepsakes to give to girls. "I was inspired by other kids, by music, seeing my peers in bands, but also from seeing other people do things and telling myself, 'I can do that too!'"
Since finishing work on his first feature length documentary film, "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne" (2011), Mike has split his time between Los Angeles, New York and Sydney, shooting editorial and advertising work for leading youth brands: Nike, Red Bull, Adidas, the award-winning K-Swiss-Kenny Powers campaign, for Target, Vans, MTV and Vice. Mike's most recent film projects include co-creating the documentary series "Sound and Vision" for Red Bull, and directing a number of its episodes. His first project with Pulse is the music video for Van She's single "Jamaica" off of the album "Idea of Happiness."
